Deutsche Welle: With DW’s free German courses, you can learn German the way you like it: via e-learning on the computer, with videos, audios and podcasts – or in the traditional way with worksheets to print out. You can find here German courses for beginners and advanced learners. Teachers can use our multimedia materials in the classroom.

Goethe Institut: The Goethe-Institut has developed many free media for you to practice German: from apps with learning materials to videos, podcasts, and games to social media and community offerings. It offers a lot of material for teachers as well, so it is worth checking it out.

Deutsch perfekt: With the magazine, audio trainer, and exercise book from Deutsch perfekt, you can improve your German skills every month easily and with fun. At the same time, you’ll learn more about life in German-speaking countries – combining your language training with interesting information about everyday life, society, and culture. The website has a lot of free materials, but the magazine is a paid service.

Learn German with English explanation –  my top three favorites

Nancy Thuleen: Great collection for learning and teaching including (but not only) very clear and helpful grammar explanations and exercises, a lot with solution, so you can learn and practice on your own

Toms Deutschseite: Another big favorite, helping to understand and practice grammar with explanation in English, exercises with solution.

Grimm Grammar: “Grammar descriptions in English/German and self-correcting exercises promote the understanding of grammar concepts through plausible communicative contexts – what someone might actually say in real life – using predominantly discourse-length language samples.”

mein-deutschbuch.de: Focusing mainly on Grammar for every level, great source for learning and teaching with clear and helpful grammar explanations and exercises, a lot with solution, so you can learn and practice on your own as well.

deutschlernen-blog.de: Another big favorite for learning and teaching grammar, and the site has some useful tips and material for preparing for the exams TestDaf and DSH.

Schubert Verlag, online: Short, online exercises for each level, or to print it out.

deutschlernerblog.de: Great website, not only for grammar, it has everything you need to brush up your German. 

My favorite ones with audio/video

Learn German:  An amazing Youtube channel with grammar, vocabulary etc. in English and German.

Slow German: A private podcast from Anna Rubik, mainly for advanced level.

Deutsch to go: A great podcast for every level with exercises and transcript. Do not miss it, you won’t regret it.
